Improve your Eye & Sharpen your Focus workshop

Through the auspices of Ax, the Arts and Culture of Sussex, NB, we are offering a one day “Improve your Eye and Sharpen your Focus” photography workshop led by Ceci Flanagan-Snow of Images by Ceci. Designed for the photography enthusiast, this one-day workshop will help you to improve your eye for finding those different perspectives that make your images unique while enhancing your technical skills. The workshop is scheduled for Saturday, March 17.

Ring of Fire

This workshop is suitable for adults and mature adolescents with a solid understanding of the workings of the camera, the concepts of depth of field and point of focus, and how to adjust the settings on the camera. Emphasis will be on developing the photographer’s eye for visualizing the final result and some technical advice on how to achieve that vision will be given.

The workshop will run from 9am to 3:30pm beginning with a presentation on how to approach a scene, what difference perspective makes, and once the primary subject has been identified, how to make it stand out. The group will then participate in a photo shoot, followed by lunch (on your own). After lunch we’ll review the photographs taken by the participants and wrap up with a Q&A session.

Participants should have a camera that allows for manual adjustments to focus, shutter speed and aperture. A simple DSLR or Mirrorless camera, or a ‘point and shoot’ camera with a variety of ‘scene’ settings, are suitable for this workshop. Those wth a DSLR or Mirrorless camera with exchangeable lenses will gain the most from the technical side of the workshop.

Participants should also bring a camera bag and tripod as well as a remote release (if available). Each participant should also bring a water bottle to ensure he or she remains hydrated throughout. Suitable clothing and footwear for exploring the community (weather permitting) during the Guided Photo Shoot.

Registration is limited to a MAXIMUM of ten participants so each will receive individual attention and assistance. Please register by Friday, March 9, 2018 by dropping by AX (Tuesday – Saturday), or contact us at info@axartscentre.ca, or 433-8351. The AX Centre is located at 12 Maple Avenue, Sussex, NB. The fee for this one-day workshop is $60 payable to the AX Centre.
