A photo is the ‘save button’ for your life

I follow a few photographers on YouTube but one whose videos I particularly enjoy is #KimGrant. Her channel https://www.youtube.com/c/VisualisingScotland emphasizes connecting to nature. She’s a photographer based in Scotland who does a lot of very serene landscapes and macro images. Her gentle voice and presentation style are both inspiring and informational.

Since the weather here in eastern Canada is very similar to that in Scotland, you’d think I’d be out trying to replicate some of her images or at least her style, but since we’re “enjoying” warm, muggy days and at the moment, torrential rains, I stayed inside today to learn how to better use my #Godox flash, trigger and gels as well as the newest version of the Fuji App for camera control and image transfer.

I gathered a few props, going on a brown/blue colour scheme, and set them up on a wooden cabinet in my teensy office. And then I began to play. It took a while to figure out the pairing of the app with the camera and to ‘read the light’ on the image with the flash – with and without a CTO gel. To say it was challenging would be an understatement, but it’s always good to learn new things and try to improve or enhance one’s knowledge and skills.

There is still lots to learn, but you have to start somewhere, right? And on a dismal rainy day with dark and foreboding skies, staying inside seems like a good idea!
