Heat wave

Since our record-breaking heat wave (temps in the 90s) is predicted to continue, I decided I should head out very early this morning if I wanted to go for a bike ride. I wasn’t the only one thinking along those lines as I passed a number of people out getting their (and in some cases, their dog’s) morning walk in while it was still comfortable.

I stopped by a bend in the creek and noticed this little robin. He was either admiring himself or getting a sip of water (I suspect the latter).

Despite all of the rain we’ve had, torrential at times, the creek itself isn’t overly full even though many farmers’ fields are still soggy and difficult to harvest as a result.

Down at the pond, the cattails are getting fluffy!

“You can’t see me”. The frogs are croaking up a storm.

And the rapidly rising sun made everything glow!

At home, as I got ready to put my bike away for the day, I noticed this architectural wonder on the corner of the garage door. They are quite lovely – unless you walk into one face first!

Meanwhile, the choke cherries are beginning to ripen on the bushes, the begonias are still showing off in the hanging baskets, one lone daisy was standing proud, the lilac tree we planted years ago is laden with sweet-smelling blossoms, and another ‘mystery’ flower – a day lily – appeared from nowhere. Gotta love a summer morning.
