I spent a lovely day today outside, enjoying fresh air and sunshine, while photographing competitors in today’s Dressage Show at #FoshaySouthEventing outside Hampton, NB. Competitors came from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island to ride before judge #AlisonGallagher.
Shows like this take a tremendous amount of work, whether there are ten competitors or a hundred. Many volunteer hours (and thousands of steps, if you count them) are needed in the planning and execution of all of the contingencies and making sure that all rules are followed as prescribed.
Most people, like the owner and show organizer, #SuzanneStevenson, wear multiple hats – coach, test reader, prize presenter, sponsor solicitor and so on. There is no end.

The judge and her scribe are kept busy as well throughout the day with short breaks to ensure that their eyes remain sharp and minds alert to analyze each competitor’s ride.

There’s also the Steward, #DawnBrown, whose role is to ensure the rules are adhered to both inside and outside the show ring. She check each rider’s tack to make sure all components are “legal”.

The announcer did a wonderful job of keeping people interested and focused, plus she acted as DJ providing lively music throughout the day. Of course, she was ably assisted by “Mia” the former sled dog!

And the show went on!All photos were shot from the perspective of the judges’ booth area. I thought it might be interesting for riders to see how they look from the judge’s point of view.
