Although summer doesn’t end until September 22nd, technically, there’s a definite hint of autumn in the air. It’s a tad cooler and, as a photographer, one of the things I really notice is the change in the light. The sun is getting lower toward the horizon and that changes the colour temperature and intensity of the light.

It’s also the time of year when community events ramp up. Last week it was the giant Flea Market (somewhat sodden given the rain we’ve “enjoyed” of late). This week it was the longest-running Agricultural Fair in Canada with farming displays, 4-H events and competitions and, to wrap it up, two performances by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Musical Ride troupe.

I arrived early enough to watch the members warm up their horses for the evening performance.

The stands inside the arena at the #PrincessLouiseParkShowCentre were filled to the rafters as well as additional seating outside at either end. Since it was a beautiful evening, no one minded being outside and when the troupe did it’s signature “Charge” they came straight at those of us viewing from the end of the arena.

The appreciative crowd enjoyed watching the intricate maneuvers performed throughout the half-hour presentation. It may not seem like a long performance, but when you’re the one riding and remembering the complex patterns, and the horses have already warmed up and done one prior performance, it’s certainly long enough.

Thanks for a great evening!
