We live on the outskirts of a small town. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows pretty well everyone else, at least enough to smile and greet each other in the grocery store, the shops or at the café.

It’s also the kind of place that offers a location called “Mud Lake” where the geese come to rest in autumn before heading south. Dragon flies were flitting around while I was trying to get photos of the ‘herd’ of geese – wrong lens for the occasion but, c’est la vie.

A stop into #PicadillyCoffeeRoasters resulted in a delicious cappuccino to accompany the decadent lemon blueberry muffin that leaped into my hand. I did bring one home for my ‘other half’ as well – or I wouldn’t have dared show this photo!

You can never have too much cinnamon on your cappuccino, can you?

It was good to the last lick of the cup!

In addition to the friendly owners and staff at the shop, you inevitably run into people you know – in this case my friend Courtney and her two-month-old son, Liam! He’s becoming quite the flirt.

I’ll take small-town living over the anonymity of big-city survival any day. I’ve lived in London (GB), Ottawa, Calgary, Saint John, Moncton, Fredericton and Halifax but none compare to the town we’ve called home for almost twenty years!
And, October in the Maritimes is spectacular. Well worth a pedal around town.

Small town living sounds charming and community-oriented.
