We “spring forward” tomorrow

Today is feeling a bit spring-like. There’s a hint of sun in the sky and it’s a little warmer, although the dampness in the air makes it feel a tad chilly.

My resident Cardinal came to visit again – singing his little heart out no doubt in search of a mate!

The bit of leftover snow on the deck railing didn’t seem to bother him as he eyed my camera lens.

He’s quite handsome, so I’m sure the lady cardinal who accepts his advances will be the lucky one. Perhaps they’ll return with their family later in the season.

In honour of the coming longer (and hopefully warmer) days, I’ve been playing with both a macro and a 35mm lens capturing the nuances of the lovely tulips I’ve received as gifts for my birthday last week. They’re ‘hanging in’ there quite well. Now that they’ve really opened up (most of them, anyway) I can get that macro lens in close to the stamens.

It also allows me to play around with other angles. I enjoy seeing the delicate shapes of the colours within each petal of the tulip.

Some have resisted opening – yet.

And some are on the verge!

Others lend themselves to creative play with light and colour

Collectively, they’re gorgeous and bring colour, light and happiness to my tiny office.

As we re-set our clocks forward tonight, there will be more daylight in the evenings, the temperatures will gradually warm up and spring will be here before we know it!
