A few days ago the calendar (and many prognosticators) proudly proclaimed that it is now officially spring. Perhaps someone forgot to inform Mother Nature as she, in her wrath, has decided to bring winter back for another hurrah! The upside is, it will not last too long. It is, after all, only late March here in the “Merry Times” of Canada and we’re used to chaotic weather and unpredictable seasons not governed by any date on the calendar.

There was a line-up at the suet block. Our cardinal waited patiently in the bushes while the woodpecker pecked his fill and one of several Blue Jays hopped impatiently from foot to foot. They know a storm is coming.

The blue jay flapped on in disgust while the woodpecker continued to enjoy his feast – and the cardinal continued to wait his turn. Very polite little bird.
Like the critters, I also abhor an early spring storm so I’m staying inside for the rest of the day, playing with photographs, reading and enjoying a nice cup of #Genmaicha green tea. I always love the tea at #SushiJo’s and have spent a lot of time searching for a supply to buy for myself. When I was in Vancouver last fall I discovered a tea shop in North Vancouver and the very helpful proprietress introduced me to this brand. My only regret is that I didn’t buy more. It has that lovely nutty (roasted brown rice and green tree mixed) flavour that soothes the body and the mind.

I’ve been trying to learn to be a better food photographer, so I asked my other half to swing by the bakery and bring home a couple of “pretty” cupcakes for me to play with. He did well in choosing two different, but equally appealing, cupcakes. The decorator at #TheRealAtlanticSuperstore bakery did an excellent job on these tasty morsels.

Who could resist this adorable pup?

Or this delectable confection?
I have a lot to learn in this genre of photography, but it’s fun to experiment AND you get to eat the subject after the fact. I’ve entered two from today’s photoshoot in the #GoldenPineappleAwards competition. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? Thanks to https://www.facebook.com/emmadunhamfoodphotography for instruction and encouragement as I explore this new-to-me genre.

Back to my cozy corner, book in one hand, tea in the other. The cupcakes are no more than a memory now. Stay warm and dry.
