A Summer Saturday in Sussex

Apparently, I like alliteration. That said, summer Saturdays around our hometown area tend to be pretty laid back. Early this morning, before the traffic began to build up, I went for a 14km (9 mile) pedal around town. Then, after a quick recuperation and a snack, I went out to run a few errands; did a bit of shopping and then a tour by Princess Louise Park.

The shops, Main Street and the local shopping mall were all busy so I did what I needed to do as quickly as possible and then took a drive. Down at the park, there were a couple of baseball games happening, supportive family members cheering the kids on.

Next to the ball fields people were enjoying the tennis courts and the basketball courts.

Down by the Show Centre a group of riders were doing cattle penning with lots of rest stops between rounds due to the steadily increasing heat and humidity.

My errands complete, I decided to spend the rest of the day a little closer to home – checking out our small garden.

The Black Eyed Susans are almost ready to spread their petals while the hostas have already flowered, much to the delight of the local bumble and honey bees.

With the sun shining, a light breeze blowing and temperatures hovering around 30ºC (that’s hot for those who think in ºF), it’s time to grab a book, a cool drink and retire to the deck under the pergola in the shade with my feet up.

Summer is short but in our small town, people know how to take advantage of every moment.
