So, yesterday I turned 75 years young. There was a time when that number intimidated me for sure – I thought anyone who’d attained that venerable age was truly old. But then I remembered; we are only as old as we think we are. My mind has no concept of how old the body in which it resides really is.
The wonderful double chocolate with boiled icing birthday cake that Joel got for me surrounded by the plethora of tulips that came as gifts from friends is a wonderful reminder that age is really mind over matter – if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter. I am fortunate to count among my friends people of all ages – from teenagers and young adults to my own contemporaries and everything in between. Those connections are what keeps one young!
Fortunately there were no candles on my cake otherwise the fire department would have had to be on standby.
A sampling of cards received yesterday. Each made me smile for different reasons and I am grateful for all of them, and others that arrived after the photo was taken.
And then it was time to cut into that delicious cake. Oh my! Someone said that birthday food contains no calories so I’m going to stick with that concept!
Whatever your age, you and we all deserve to celebrate birthdays and every other special occasion. Life IS short and should be revered. With all of the fear and stress inducing news recently, celebrating special days with good food, good times, and good friends is well worth doing. It raises our spirits and brings joy to the forefront!
As winter drags itself toward spring, there is hope for brighter, warmer days ahead.
