Sunny, but nippy days

The calendar says its spring. Shoots of green grass and buds on trees, bushes and plants concur. But, the still-North wind has a bite that reddens cheeks and causes shivers if you dressed for the way it looked as opposed to the temperature and windchill factor.

It looks like there’ll be a good crop of ‘kittens’ on these pussywillow branches if old legends hold true. They’ve popped out and are about to shed their fur coats!

Other bushes along the roadside are also showing their desire to get on with the season, although capturing them waving in the north wind was definitely a challenge. Spring in the Maritimes is a fickle season teasing us with warmth and sunshine and then a bitter winter-like wind rushes in.

Bright red Dogwood branches in the ditch mask the detritus of winter that has accumulated beneath the falling snow in layers.

Of course, the sight and smell of dessicated dog poo is always an indicator of the season.

But the buds on tree branches always give us hope that the nippy post-winter winds will go away, yielding to the softer, warmer days of late spring and summer for more pleasant walks down Mulberry Lane.
