9 days later…

That’s how long it took, at my tender age, to recover from a week-long trip to BC and back. I’ve never slept so much nor had so little energy as in the past 8 days. But today? Today was different.

I woke up and realized I actually HAD a bit of energy. I enjoyed a coffee date with a good friend and then came home and took a walk down one of my favourite places – Mulberry Lane (yes, there really is a place called Mulberry Lane here in Picadilly, NB).

For those with seasonal allergies, those adorable white fluffy flowers spell nasal doom as they float through the air. Still, it’s spring and this is to be expected – keep the tissues handy. I managed to get my walk in before it completely clouded over and the wind picked up.

Several years ago my cousin Judith gave me a slip from her row of Flaming Bushes. It was tiny but it has managed to survive and thrive and is now quite magnificent – and in fall, the centerpiece of our front yard.

Happiness (for bees and other polinators) are the hundreds of bright yellow flowers dotting the roadsides and fields all around us.

The sight of those pretty yellow blossoms waving in the breeze is guaranteed to make you smile.

And, there are apple blossoms! They’re just beginning to pop out on the crab apple trees at the edge of our neighbour’s field.

Did I mention the lilacs? Their beautiful blossoms are everywhere right now. Sadly, I can’t have them in the house as their scent, delightful as it is, causes me allergic distress. But outside? I love them!

Mother nature is colouring the landscape everywhere you look. Getting out for a short brisk walk, despite the cool temperature, was a joy this afternoon. After all, it IS spring, even if the weather isn’t totally cooperating. I and several friends have determined that the seasons have all shifted back a month. The cool, damp weather we’re experiencing here now is more like April than late May. But, in September and October, we’ll be grateful for the extended warm weather staving off the harsh winds of winter.

For now, just get out and enjoy yourself!
