I can’t believe we are already 2 weeks into summer. Tomorrow is Canada Day – our national holiday to celebrate our sovereign existence!

The warmth and humidity has been great for my hanging baskets and gardens.

The blossoms have double in size!
The trees and bushes between us and the main road have really filled in this year. They help to muffle the road noise (a bit) and filter out some of the odour of rural living when farmers fertilize their fields.

Since insect life is abundant right now, I decided to play with my macro lens a bit and see what I could find.

The spider nest (top left) kind of creeped me out but seeing bees and some kind of black butterfly made up for it.
When we first moved here 16 years ago we planted several shrubs and a white lilac tree. That tree is now HUGE and the tiny clipping of a Flaming Bush that my cousin Judith gave me at the time is now a full fledged shrub.

Since I had my macro lens attached to the camera I decided to play with a few flowers. Hosta flowers make a great subject, as do begonias and white lilac flowers – layers of textures, shapes and colours. Wee bugs add interest to some images as well.

Although it’s the end of June we now have two and a half months of summer to look forward to. As much as possible, try to get out and enjoy the ever-so-short season! for me it’s biking through the trails and around our neighbourhood. Remember to use your sunscreen and stay hydrated!
Happy summer!
