In these times of political and climactic chaos, sometimes it’s hard to find beauty and strength in the everyday. Nevertheless, sometimes Mother Nature will show us what a tremendous capacity she has to withstand adversity. Despite a few showers recently, our normally wet province is very dry right now. I stopped by the pond on the trail near my home hoping to see frogs – but none were to be found. But, the “cattails” were standing strong despite the low water levels.

Some things are totally surprising in the way they srping back into existence even after being discarded. Over the years, whenever I’ve been given a bouquet of flowers, when they’ve passed their peak and are wilting in the vase, we toss them out into the bushes at the edge of our property. My theory is that birds or other animals may find some use for them.

Earlier this spring we were treated to some lovely tulips rising from the debris. Today, it was two lilies – and apparently more to come. None of these were planted nor were they tended at all. They somehow managed to sow their own seeds and burst through the clutter of the underbrush to show off their beauty – standing in stark contrast to the foliage around them.

It looks like I’ll have more to enjoy in a few days!
Mother Nature is amazing – displaying her strength, toughness and adaptability in difficult situations. Perhaps the human race should pay a bit more attention to these things and learn from them. As these flowers have proven, even the least of us discarded by the wayside can rise up again, adapt and endure to share strength and beauty to all who pause to see.
