Lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer?

Well, lazy at least. I spent yesterday doing…not much. I grabbed my camera and 80mm macro lens and went for a wander around the yard.

The blooming day lilies from yesterday were gone, but buds foretell of more to come. They’re called “day” lilies for a reason – no longevity.

Other plants are ready to bloom at any moment.

There are tons of choke cherries this year. Once they ripen, the birds will be ecstatic!

Some of the hosta buds are beginning to open and others are showing off their pretty mauve flowers. What were tiny wee plants a few years ago are now huge with many flowers scattered above the carpet of striped foliage.

Multiple adorable bees where industriously getting nectar from the weigelia bush’s flowers. They work so hard in their short lives to care for others in their hives. They are all about service to others – a lesson we humans could afford to learn.

Afterward, I set up my tripod and camera on the deck in hopes of capturing some new hummingbird photos. I sat quietly, waiting patiently (or perhaps not so patiently) for one or two to drop in for a snack. After an hour I gave up and took the setup apart to put away in the house.

You KNOW what happened as soon as I left, don’t you?

Patience isn’t always its own reward. But a lazy day? Definitely a good thing. How do you spend your summer days?
