The Weather Network predicted some much-needed rain for today, so I headed out mid-morning for a walk around my neighbourhood. The humidity was becoming stifling, but there was no rain or wind and the sky was overcast – ideal circumstances for doing some outdoor photography.

Before heading out the door I had to grab a shot of our anniversary roses. They’re still looking pretty good!
As I went up our walkway I felt like I was being watched. I was.

I walked down the road to the spot where beavers have built a dam creating a decent sized pond. It’s large enough for the beaver lodge and also to provide housing, shelter and food for a small family of geese. None of these were out and about when I stopped on the bridge to see what was going on.

The overcast sky helped to intensify the colours of the leaves and grasses.

Even roadside weeds can be lovely to look at – as long as they don’t get stuck on your clothes or in your hair.

Walking back up the road, on the opposite side, I saw the bright red roof of my neighbour’s shed in the distance behind the tall grasses and shrubs.

There are a couple of apple trees that are absolutely laden with fruit. I’m sure the local deer and other wildlife will enjoy foraging among the branches for a snack once they’ve ripened.

Speaking of deer – these four were way off in the distance on the far side of the hayfield. They’ll find lots to eat over the next few months.
Back in my own yard, I checked on the day lilies. A while ago one appeared – and vanished. The next day there were two. After that? Three. And today there were five! There were two groups of two blossoms and a single. Living up to their name, they’ll be gone tonight – but perhaps there’ll be more tomorrow – who knows?

Sunday morning is usually a quiet time in our neighbourhood. The birds are chirping, there’s a light wind blowing, and the traffic on the road hasn’t yet ramped up to an intolerable level as people who’ve been away camping for the weekend start heading home – all passing our house.
