Although the date still says it’s late autumn, Mother Nature has decided it is high time for mere mortals to experience the onset of winter – 19 days in advance of its ‘official’ start.

I’m not sure exactly how much snow fell in the open areas – our deck railing is under the pergola roof – but it was enough to warrant snow plows on the roads and snow blowers and shovels hauled out of garages.

The news feeds were filled with reports of accidents all over the Maritimes. I’ve never figured out why the first snowfall of the season brings all of the idiots out on the road, driving like they’re in the Indy 500 on dry pavement! Many are caused by people who don’t use proper snow tires, and that, combined with poor driving skills and even worse judgment, results in spin-outs, crashes and pile-ups. I stayed home.
From the vantage point of my window and warmed by the fireplace, I can look out and appreciate the lovely scene as tree branches bow under the weight of the wet and still falling snow.

Stay warm and safe, dear friends.
