It’s that time of year – somewhere between Christmas and the start of the New Year. It’s the time when we don’t really know what day it is, where we lounge around in PJs and promise ourselves we will get out for a walk to burn off at least a bit of the excess indulgences that come with the holiday. Or not.
My surrogate family, the Smyths, gave me some beautiful red roses for Christmas. Of course, I had to spend some time immortalizing them in photos.
I had to give a macro shot a try as well. The curls upon curls of petals are mesmerizing!
I did manage to talk myself into going out – to the #PicadillyCoffeeRoasters – for coffee and to see what was happening in the world. After the hectic pre-Christmas traffic on the streets and sidewalks and in the shops, everything seemed surprisingly quiet today. There was very little traffic to be seen anywhere and few people walking bravely in the bitter cold sunlight.
At the coffee shop, it was interesting to watch customers come and go. Most waiting for their orders to be filled passed the time staring at their phones, oblivious to anyone or anything around them. It was a treat to see two ladies enjoying their beverages and having a real conversation – phones not in their hands – connecting with each other.
When I left, I took a drive around the local recreation area. The ball fields, tennis, basketball and pickleball courts were empty, a light blanket of snow covering them all.
Once I got home I decided it would be a good day to use some of the quark I bought from #ArmadaleFarmDairyProducts and make a lemon cheesecake with a chocolate base. It’s not like we haven’t had loads of sweets already but at least this doesn’t contain an excess of sugar – ehehehe.
With an impending winter storm on the horizon, it made sense to stock up ahead of time. We may be house-bound for a couple of days.
