16º and sunshine!

This is the kind of weather that lulls us into thinking winter is over – but it’s not. Tomorrow and the next day are threatening to be dreadful with torrential downpours of freezing rain around southern NB and more white stuff for the northern part of the province. Today, however, is magnificent!

Everything is melting and water is running freely through the ditches. The downside is that all of winter’s detritus is now exposed. Still – it’s warm! I was very overdressed for my walk.

The ice on the beaver pond below our house is pitted and soft, as much of it has melted (or is in the process of melting). Water is flowing over the beaverdam with gusto.

I love the sound of water cascading over the dam.

Snow is vanishing from yards and farmers’ fields.

There are, however, distinct signs of spring in the air. Tiny buds are beginning to appear on sun-drenched branches, and the dogwood branches are a deeper shade of red now.

It may be deceptive, especially given the forecast, but it feels wonderful to walk with strong sunshine on your face and come home to open windows and let the warm, fresh air blow the dust away. I, for one, am enjoying this while it lasts! Spring will come, but in the meantime, perhaps these photos will provide some hope!
