It’s a sunny Sunday

It’s also a bloody cold one. The thermometer says +6º, but the North Wind says otherwise. I went out on a “photo walk” (er, drive) this morning and was nearly blown off my feet!

Before I left, I found Lucy lounging in the office, watching the action outside in the yard, but with no interest in moving herself. She’s into warmth and comfort!

My first stop was a visit to “the tree” in Penobsquis. Even with a longer lens, it was impossible to tell if there were buds on the branches. I’m quite sure there are, and the snow on the field below the tree is gone.

I continued my exploration on the shore of “Mud Lake” (yes, that really is its name). In spring, there’s lots of water there, not so much during the heat of summer. A pair of geese were setting up housekeeping in the middle of the lake and were quite offended by my presence – honking loudly as the gander flew off while the goose stuck closer to home.

The wind was picking up steam while I was at the lake, making the calm water more turbulent. From there, I went up to the Sussex Walking Trail near the Dog Park to check on the memorial trees we had planted for Samantha and David. I was relieved to see that, after two years, they were still growing strong and had buds beginning to develop for this season.

We chose Serviceberry Trees because they’re known for their resilience and the fact that deer don’t care for them as snacks. In summer, the birds enjoy the berries and eventually, those two trees will provide shade for the dogs playing in that corner of the park.

As I was leaving the area, I saw a clear reflection of some of the trees and branches beside the trail itself. It reminded me that visiting the trees is often a time I take for reflection as well.
