Life brings its share of ups and downs but if you can weather the storms, the sunny days are that much better. Yesterday we celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary and we’ve been together almost 20 years.
My day got off to a great start with a lovely card and then a delivery by Pam Goold of #Goold’s Flowers Ltd. Joel had ordered some lovely roses for me to mark the occasion.
They are gorgeous and getting moreso as they open their petals to reveal what’s within each layer.
Later in the day we drove in to Saint John for a nice dinner at #EastSideMario’s – a pleasant break for sure.
This morning was one of the ‘stormy’ days.
Tragedy struck this morning and my husband accidentally knocked over my antique (and still functioning) metronome. My mother originally bought it in England when she was studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London in the late 1930s. It survived the war, it survived travelling home to Canada and it survived hundreds of hours of both her practice, my practice and hundreds of student lessons. But – the glue that held it together was old and dry and when it got knocked off the cabinet, it literally fell apart.
It has great sentimental value to me. My mother was a concert pianist; my father was a piano tuner. I kept her metronome and his tuning hammer as souvenirs of their careers and I am heartbroken.
The mechanism is ok so I’m hoping to find someone who can successfully and carefully reassemble the cabinet. It is a Maelzel from France.
It was a simple accident but distressing nonetheless. Wish me luck finding someone to reassemble it. It’s quite delicate (obviously).
But, despite accidents, illnesses and other unpleasantries, the good out-weighs the bad and we’re still together after almost 20 years. Happy Anniversary Joel. Here’s to 20 more!
