Finding Joy in Tiny Things

I recently subscribed to blog posts by Georgi Kisov. His most recent post “https://georgikisyov.com/2025/12/12/magic-lives-in-the-moments-we-choose-to-notice/” really touched me.

As a photographer, I spend a lot of time looking for the visual magic, most often in tiny things, like this small ornament on our Christmas tree, for example.

It’s only about an inch high, but the warmth of its copper colour, reflecting the nearby mini-lights, delights my heart. It is one of those tiny things that bring the magic of the season into the house, home and heart.

I choose to notice the magic in moments, as Georgi describes in his post. There is magic and joy to be found, even in those times when we think the outlook is bleak. There is magic in friendship, the laughter of a child, loving looks between partners, the purr of a cat or the soft sigh of a dog resting his head on your leg.

There is magic in the ornaments we place on our Christmas trees – the passage of time, the reflections of light and the memories each contains.

And there is magic in the memories of Christmases past…

David is a bright light in the galaxy somewhere out there, missed here, but loved to infinity. He was the magic in my Christmases for many years. His magic will be remembered this and every year as long as I draw breath.
