April is a confusing month

Some mornings in April you wake up to sunshine, relative warmth (after the bitter chills of January, February and March), and the sound of birds chirping from the trees. Some mornings you look out and see hints of green poking through the brown grass – the detritus of a winter past.

Then there are the mornings you wake up and see, oh horror, that the ground is covered in a few inches of heavy, wet snow. Pretty as it was back in December in the run up to the Christmas season, now that it’s spring, the seasonal beauty of snow is long past. Instead, it suggests something else.

It’s that “blue on blue” kind of day. Combine that with the continued isolation due to the Covid-19 virus, and it’s time to whip up some rich hot chocolate and break into the container of chocolate chip cookies.

As the day warms up, though, the snow will melt away and the birds are singing. There was even a robin on our lawn a little while ago. After all, it IS spring even though April seems a tad confused about the whole thing.

My wish for everyone is that you stay safe, stay healthy and stay home. This won’t last forever, I promise!
