She inspires me

Several women in my life have inspired me over the years.

Both of my mothers for sure – for vastly different, but also eerily similar reasons. Both were brave women, well ahead of their time in many ways. One had a child given up for adoption but she went on to have a full family life. The other had a career as a concert pianist but married and adopted a child – a complete about-face on her planned life.

At many points throughout my life I’ve been privileged to meet several wonderful women – some older and wiser, some contemporaries who encouraged me in my own path; all inspiring in one way or another.

For this challenge, I’m sure many will name famous people. I believe true inspiration comes from everyday people doing ordinary things, quietly and without fanfare, to make the world a better place.

  1. My inspiration was my maternal grandmother. Her inspiration manifested in my life through her absolute unwavering, unconditional love. She believed in me, she cheered me on and she valued my opinions. Although she has been gone from my life for fifty years, she stands behind me still and I feel her strength and wisdom every day.
