I went for a walk along the Sussex Nature Trail. I captured a few images that I entitled “The Last Vestiges of Autumn”.

Somehow it seemed appropriate. Even though it’s early January and we are in winter, there’s no snow around here at the moment (well certainly not enough to talk about) but it is cold, gray and damp.

Most of the cattails have their fuzzy winter coats on, although some are already beginning to shed that out layer.

If it were me, I’d keep my coat on for a while yet. Mother Nature isn’t done with the season for quite some time.

This one stood, like a brave sentinel, against the bitter breeze that was blowing. Looking at it’s naked form made me feel decidedly chilly!

It won’t be long before everything is coated in white, but for now, the walking is easy!
