SO cold!

You can take your Polar Vortex and ….. Like many folks in our general area, we “enjoyed” record-breaking sub-zero temperatures this week, hitting a bitter low of -45ºC! Pipes froze – and so did everyone. Luckily it only lasted about 36 hours in total, but it was VERY unpleasant while it did.

We filled the bird feeder to the brim and put out a fresh suet cake. Both containers were completely empty in no time. These little guys were scrounging for the scraps!

This little chickadee looks fat, but he was just completely fluffed up against the cold wind that was howling around the house, deck, bushes and the feeders.

This cardinal (and his mate) are normally very shy, but as you can see, he’s less than impressed by the empty feeder. He hasn’t figured out that he needs to get here before the pack of feathered-wolves (Blue Jays) in the mornings. They’re here before sunrise.

I think I was being told!

Yep, I was definitely being told. He stared me down until he got some more food tossed out! It seems I live to serve my critters – cat, dogs, birds – whatever. That’s ok. They repay me with entertainment on a regular basis.

Thankfully, today is a much warmer (if more humid) day!
