The days are longer, and the sun has strength in it now. Getting out and about is essential for taking advantage of the improved weather. In the past few days, I’ve really enjoyed being out, especially on my bicycle. Travelling by bike ensures that you slow down and feel the air, smell the flowers, and truly have an experience – not just a trip from A to B.

I’ve biked through Sussex’s trails twice in the last couple of days – once with a friend, once on my own. Things you see include a battered ball surrounded by one yellow and many fluffy dandelions. Then, there’s the “creek”.

Although we’ve had some rain, it’s not nearly enough. The water is very low for this early in the season. For farmers’ sake, I hope that’s not indicative of another drought-worn summer.

After capturing that scene, I set off pedalling down the trail, heading for the pond area.

Not a frog to be heard, and again, the water is low for this early in the season.
Earlier today, I set out to find some geese to shoot (photographically speaking, of course). First I drove out to Mud Lake where I’d seen a pair a couple of weeks ago. Nada.
Then, as I was driving home, I spied a beaver working on his lodge in the pond behind our house.

The water was still and the reflections were lovely.

Someone had created a path around one end of the pond.

After looking at the trees (that are making us all sneeze), I moved around to the end of the pond to find “my” geese. I’ve been listening to them honk morning and night, so I assume there are nests and maybe goslings somewhere in the tall grass. But the wee ones aren’t out for public viewing yet.

A typical weekend in Sussex. A chance to relax and reflect, breathe deeply and enjoy Mother Nature’s gifts.
