When memories are all you have

Two years ago, on August 25th, friends and family gathered with me to honour the life of my son, David. Most were there to comfort me and his father, Ian, and other bereaved family members, but also to remember the sparkling life that was David. Tributes poured in from friends – people he’d gone to school with here in New Brunswick decades ago and friends and co-workers from his life in Vancouver. It warmed my heart to read every message and listen to every spoken word throughout that day and those that followed.

Not wishing to fall into a pit of depression on that day, I kept myself busy – first going with fellow camera club members to shoot the Kings County Agricultural Fair and then yesterday, uptown in Saint John playing with some camera club friends making portaits in various locations.

For those who may wish to remember that day (or who haven’t seen the videos and wish to), I’ll attach links.

This is the video of parts of his life that played during “David’s Party”.

When I first learned that David was gone, I created a short video tribute to him. For me, words and photographs are where I turn when the going gets rough. If you didn’t know David, perhaps this will give you some idea of the person he was throughout his life – one who plunged headlong into every challenge he faced – until he couldn’t.

I miss him every minute of every day but, as some wise person said, grief is love with nowhere to go. He is and will always be a part of every beat of my heart.
