Another solo stroll

17ºC is exceptionally warm for November in this part of Canada. Yesterday and today I walked part of the Town of Sussex’s Nature Trail to see what I could find to photograph.

I’m learning to walk slowly and observe my surroundings rather than tromp along at breakneck speed. The first thing I saw today was a “fairy ring” of mushrooms (not edible) on the grass beside the path. How they end up on a circle is beyond me – but there they were. All seemed to be the same type, although each was unique.

I stepped carefully off the path to photograph some of them more closely.

The fins on the underside of each “shroom” fascinated me.

While I was on my knees with my face close to the ground a gentleman and his dog passed by, stopping briefly to inquire if I was ok. I assured him I was fine, just playing with photographs, and thanked him for his concern.

I took a few more shots and then headed down the path myself to see what else I could find.

Rather ugly, aren’t they? Still…

The beautiful weather brought many people out to enjoy the season while it lasts. Quite often, by this time of year, we’d be inundated with snow. Climate change is real! A couple about my age pedalled by on their e-bikes, and then another lady went by as well. A perfect day for a ride, but my bike is in storage for the winter, so I was content to watch them enjoying themselves.

Back down on the ground for a couple of additional shots. The grass is still green, the coltsfoot flower is bright and dandelions are still growing and turning into “fluff” in the wind. Still not something we’re used to seeing in November!

The Walking Trail is one of the treasures of the town and a great spot to go for a bit of peace and to just sit with nature.
