After weeks of non-winter, with temperature remaining, for the most part, on the plus side of zero, today dawned with more typical January temperatures here in the now-frozen east coast of Canada.

As the sun rose over the snow-covered hay field across the road, a chilly haze made me shiver. Flocks of various birds including Chickadees, Blue Jays, Sparrows, Doves, Cardinals (2 males, one female), Corvids and more descended on our feeders hoping to stock up on nice fat sunflower seeds and grains!

Much to my surprise, there was no fighting as each species sought out its favourite treats.

Our resident dove seemed content to wait her turn.

At -17ºC, it was a very chilly start to the day for all concerned.

It seemed like a good day to take on a bit of baking and contribute to warming up the inside of the house with spare heat from the oven.

I stirred in a little of this and a little of that…

And after a while, the whole house smelled delicious as 4 1/2 dozen chocolate chip cookies made their way from pan, to rack to plate. Time for hot coffee and cookies while watching the entertainment outside – through the window!

Stay warm everyone!
Beautiful pictures… even though it’s cold…lol
