April showers are supposed to bring May flowers but whoever wrote that trope obviously never lived in Canada, particularly the Maritimes. It is a cruel month varying from last night’s freezing rain to warmer temperatures to melt the results – and back again.
This is what I woke up to this morning.

Freezing raincoats on every outside surface.

Every twig on every bush, every blade of grass on the ground, is (for now) sporting a dazzlingly shiny diamond coat.

As the temperature rises later today this will all vanish, melting away and giving us the illusion that spring has really arrived.
I’ll believe it when I can safely ride my bike on the roads and trails again!

The birds have pretty much stripped the seed heads on the black-eyed Susans and they stand out against the crispy white lawn behind.

And melting icicles are sliding off the metal roof over the pergola above the deck.
If you’re out and about today, walk or drive with great care!

And meanwhile, in the house, Lucy is on her favourite perch enjoying the heat from the pilot flame on the propane fireplace.

And Harley is hanging out in the kitchen, hoping for a windfall of some sort of goody!

Stay safe my friends.
I’m like you Ceci, eagerly awaiting warmer and brighter weather. Once again, beautiful images and prose. Fondly, Sue

“ April is the cruelest month “ , so says T.S. Eliot. But there is hope. Back in the field this late morning there was the smell of earth and more birdsong than any other walk this spring. There were very tiny green things pushing up between patches of melting ice crystals. The new season of growth and rebirth is pushing forward!
